Nestled on the shores of Kachemak
Bay, Homer is a nature-lover's
delight and a "must see" for all
travelers to Alaska. Perched between
boreal forest, alpine tundra,
temperate rain forest, and a
productive marine environment, the
area accommodates a rich diversity
of birdlife, fish, whales, ocras
other mammals including moose and
brown bears in all seasons and in
spectacular abundance in the summer.
Homer is the summer residence for the elegant Sandhill
Crane and the rocky islands in Kachemak Bay are home to
two types of Puffins.

We have many birds, such as
Eagles, deep blue
Stellar Jays, Gray Jays, Redpolls, Grosbeaks, Nuthatches, sparrows and many
others and even a pheasant feeding at the birdfeeder.
Moose seem to love the
alder trees in our yard and many a morning we have had a mother and calf
grazing. One winter we had a young
moose licking salt off the front steps. (Please
take care and do NOT approach as they are dangerous and
very protective of their young.)
This year (2009) we had even had a black bear cross our
front yard into the woods behind our property and this
past winter we saw a lynx.

- Squirrels
- Rabbits
- Lots of birds
We have an abundance of wildlife right in our yard.
Everyday we see Bald Eagles flying by and many perch on
the trees on the property. We have even had one
fly up to our bird feeder and front window.
